Mit einem Tiger schlafen (international title: Sleeping with a Tiger), an Austrian film biography by Anja Salomonowitz about the artist Maria Lassnig, will premiere in February 2024 as part of the 74th Berlinale in the Forum section.
In this unique biography, Birgit Minichmayr plays the avant-garde painter Maria Lassnig. The same actress portrays the painter in every movie; whether Maria Lassnig is shown as being 6, 14, 64, or 94 years old, she always looks the same because no makeup is used to alter her age. She is the same person throughout time, no matter what. Her mental state is artistically translated here. Maria Lassnig is reported to have been ageless, youthful at heart even though she was an elderly woman as wise as a young girl. As a result, this movie is no longer truly a biopic; rather, it is a poetic exploration of the idea that our souls never change.
providing access to both internal and exterior viewpoints in this non conventional biography of the artist and her search for her very personal, artistic expression, her struggle in the male domitated art world, and her physical struggles in which she brings her inner pain to the canvas, but also her great artistic success.
